This was the first trip of our 2017 Milky Way astrophotography season! It was cold, windy, and we froze our butts off! We didn't bring any camping gear. We just figured that we'd sleep in the car. NOT COMFORTABLE! We also got skunked on the Milky Way front for most of the night. Strong winds combined with cloudy skies blocked visibility of our desired photographic subject. Then the clouds started to part around 5am! We got some partially obstructed Milky Way shots, some blue hour morning shots, and we got to meet some nice people!
We met Nick Maruta of @marutaphotography. Check out his Instagram feed! Plenty of great content! Landscape, people, ocean, drone shots...a little bit of everything!
In addition to the stills, I was able to capture an astrophotography timelapse. Check it out on below! It was roughly pointed at the North Star. Lots of cloud movement as well due to the strong winds. Good times! It was the start our California photography adventures. We'd stay in the state for 2017 and we'd try to visit the heck out of our home state!
